Instead of demolishing, we chose to adapt. Instead of starting from scratch, we embraced the responsible modernisation of an existing 1990s building. The project to revitalise Unibaltic’s headquarters in Szczecin was conceived to deliver a modern, functional workspace while honouring the character and integrity of the original architecture.
In the spirit of sustainable design, many original elements were preserved, including balustrades, granite floors, and the distinctive lift portal. The staircase – often treated as secondary – was reimagined as the building’s focal point; adorned with striking wallpaper, it encourages movement and daily activity.
The interiors were planned around the genuine needs of employees. Office spaces remain functional and neutral, while communal areas – such as the dining room, games room, relaxation lounge, and terraces – were given a distinct, welcoming character. Particular attention was paid to ergonomics, acoustic comfort, and accessibility, as well as to creating flexible layouts that support a variety of work modes, from focused individual tasks to collaborative teamwork and informal meetings.
The design was guided by sustainable principles, applying recycling and reuse strategies to both materials and finishes. In parallel, the building underwent comprehensive thermal modernisation: windows were replaced with energy-efficient units, roofs were insulated, and thermal bridges were eliminated. Outdated technical installations were fully replaced with modern systems, and the building was fitted with heat pumps and a photovoltaic installation, significantly improving its overall energy performance.
